Scrunch Spray for Wavy Hair

Sea salt is great for encouraging your hair’s natural wave, curl, and texture to come out and play. By combining salt water with moisturizing aloe gel and the fruity floral scent of neroli hydrosol, you can capture the flirty spirit of beach hair without having to jump in the ocean!

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon sea salt
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons aloe vera gel
  • 2 tablespoons neroli hydrosol

Directions

Heat the water to a boil, then remove from heat. Stir in the salt, then allow the mixture to cool to room temperature. Combine the cooled salt water with the aloe vera gel and neroli hydrosol in a 4-ounce spray bottle, then shake well.

How to Use

Package your Scrunch Spray in a spray bottle for easy application. Spritz the spray onto damp hair, then scrunch it in your palm as you blow dry or air dry your hair. The Scrunch Spray will last about two weeks in the refrigerator and can be used cold or at room temperature.

Natural Beauty Tip: Use Hydrosols to Add Scent

Even though natural hair care has plenty of virtues, giving up the fun flirty scents of commercial shampoos and conditioners can be hard. We’ve grown accustomed to equating clean hair with sweet scents like coconut, apple, and flowers. It would be great if we could all just embrace the natural human aromas of our freshly cleaned heads, but it can be awfully hard to let go of our candy-scented cosmetics. Hydrosols offer a totally natural way to add safe aroma to your hair on an everyday basis. Just package your favorite hydrosol in a spray bottle and spritz it directly into your hair to add a splash of aroma. My personal favorite variety of hydrosol for this purpose is neroli, but you might prefer rose, lavender, lemon balm, or geranium.

Cuticle Oil

Taking good care of your hands and nails is an important, but often overlooked part of an overall beauty routine. Besides keeping your hands well-moisturized and safe from harsh detergents and extreme temperatures, it helps to keep your fingernails nicely manicured. Your cuticles, the thin layers of skin at the base of your fingernails, can be damaged easily by everyday abuse. When they are kept neat and well moisturized they are less likely to be cracked, snagged, or torn. Keeping the skin intact reduces the risk of infection, inhibits the growth of calluses, and can discourage the buildup of dead skin. This simple cuticle oil is excellent for softening hard cuticles before and after a manicure. After tackling your cuticles, your nails can be filed and buffed for a totally natural look that compliments both women and men.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons avocado oil
  • 18 drops niaouli essential oil

Directions

Combine the avocado and essential oils in a 1-ounce dropper bottle and shake well.

How to Use

Before starting your manicure, it’s good practice to sterilize any of your reusable tools. Drop your nail clippers, cuticle scissors, and stainless steel cuticle stick into boiling water for a few minutes before use to kill any germs that may be lurking on them. Use a heat-proof pair of tongs to remove the sterilized equipment, and be careful not to burn yourself.

Apply one drop of cuticle oil to the base of each fingernail. Rub the oil into the cuticle, then let them sit for two to three minutes. Use a cuticle stick to push the cuticles down from the fingernail, then use cuticle scissors or clippers to carefully trim away any excess dead skin. Be careful not to trim into the healthy cuticle or the skin around your fingernails. If you see redness or blood (or if you are experiencing any pain) you have gone too far! Finish by applying another drop of oil to each fingernail and massaging it in.
