Summertime Smoothie

Makes about 3 cups

This smoothie makes a refreshing and energizing breakfast meal. For the ginkgo, you can substitute an herbal extract of your choice if you wish–this beverage offers a nice base for almost any herbal add-in.

• 1 ripe banana
• 7 or 8 fresh or frozen strawberries
• 2 cups orange juice, fresh-squeezed or frozen concentrate
• Ginkgo extract
• Ice cubes
• Mint sprigs

1. Peel the banana, slice it into 3/4-inch pieces, and place the pieces in a blender. Add the strawberries, the orange juice, and the ice cubes. Blend until creamy.

2. Pour the smoothie into three glasses (or pour a glass for yourself and refrigerate the rest for the next day’s breakfast). Add the ginkgo extract–a dropperful will do for most people–and garnish with a mint sprig. Serve immediately.
