MAKING TEAS
You may use either a single herb or make your own tea blends, such as the Nourishment Tea below.
Place 1 to 2 tablespoons of dried (2 to 4 tablespoons of fresh) herb leaves, flowers, and/or stems in a muslin bag or strainer. Place the herb container in a cup, pour 1 cup boiling water over it, and steep, covered, for 20 minutes, or until the tea reaches the desired strength. Sweeten teas with honey if desired.
NOURISHMENT TEA
This is my favorite pregnancy beverage and nutrient supplement (iron, calcium, and many vitamins and trace minerals). The dried herbs can be mixed in a large batch in advance, and you can vary the quantities of the various ingredients to suit your preference. It is delicious either hot or cool. My whole family enjoys it. I drink Nourishment Tea throughout pregnancy.
• 4 parts dried red raspberry leaf
• 2 parts dried rose hips
• 4 parts dried nettles
• 2 parts dried alfalfa
• 4 parts dried oat straw
• 2 parts lemon balm
• 1 part dried spearmint leaf
Mix everything together and store in an airtight container away from heat and light.
When ready to prepare the beverage, place 4 tablespoons of the mix in a quart jar. Fill the jar with boiling water and steep, covered, for 30 minutes. Strain, sweeten, and drink 1 to 4 cups daily.
