I have always loved growing calendulas and have often used their flowers for making salves. To make this soap, steep 4 ounces of dried or semidried calendula flowers in 4 ounces of olive oil in a jar, sealed, for 2 to 3 weeks, then strain the oil. A faster method is to steep the dried calendula flowers in water and use the strained infusion in place of all or part of the water called for in the recipe.(Or combine both methods.) I believe that this baby soap is the mildest, kindest soap available.
• 12 ounces lye
• 32 ounces water
• 24 ounces coconut oil
• 38 ounces vegetable shortening
• 24 ounces olive oil
• 4 ounces calendula-infused olive oil
