Healthy Recipes for the Holidays

The holiday season is a special time of cooking for many of us. Time spent in the kitchen with friends and family is a great way to celebrate the season, and our fondest memories often revolve around our families’ traditional holiday foods.

But tradition needn’t dictate the use of inferior ingredients. Instead, we can honor the season and our place in nature by choosing real, whole foods. Don’t consider a fresh variation on Aunt Marie’s jiggly cranberry sauce a deviation from family history — rather see the whole-foods version as a return to the much longer human tradition of celebrating the bounty the earth provides.

The nutritious, whole food-focused recipes featured here are just as delicious and classic as many of our holiday favorites, but they each include a range of real vegetables, fruits and herbs, creating a healthier tradition to carry into tomorrow. These recipes also feature well-raised animal products, such as pastured chickens, sustainably caught fish, and butter and ghee from grass-fed animals. Not only do these animals have a more natural life, loads of research confirms that the meat and dairy we get from them is better for us, too (check out the studies here).

If you or your family is vegetarian, consider our hearty and filling squash salad as your main course. And of course, we also include dessert—one that’s nutrient-packed, lightly sweetened, and free of refined flour and processed sugar.
