Neither had I, until recently. Working late in my University’s newsroom, I ordered a pizza with chicken, tomatoes… and garlic. I was so pleasantly surprised that it was an option (and absolutely love garlic, anyway) that I couldn’t resist. After it arrived, I could smell the garlic above anything else on the pizza yum!

Apparently, using herbs on pizza has always been pretty common. “Italians have been lavish with herbs on their pizza and focaccia for centuries,” according to one of the Herb Companion‘s stories on pizza parties (throw your own!).

But if you aren’t lucky enough to be able to order a pizza delivery with your favorite herbs as toppings, you can create your own by trying any of our pizza topping recipes, which emphasize on fresh herbs. And of course, if you missed it, get some great recipes from top chefs such as Tyler Florence, host of Food Network’s “Food 911,” in our recent article, “A Passion for Pizza.”
