It’s happened to all of us at least once. You drink a little too much the night before and wake up feeling like you got hit by a truck. If you’re suffering from a hangover, relax. With these natural hangover cures, you’ll be feeling better in no time.

A hangover can leave you with sore muscles, nausea and a killer headache. Get relief from your hangover with these natural remedies! Photo By spunkinator/Courtesy Flickr.

Drink a glass of lime and sugar water. When you drink alcohol, your blood sugar levels drop. This Ayurvedic remedy helps return those levels to normal. Add two teaspoons of fresh lime juice and ¼ teaspoon of sugar to a glass of water.

Eat a banana. Alcohol dehydrates the body by causing you to urinate more. Every time you pee, you flush out valuable water-soluble vitamins and minerals such as potassium, which your body needs potassium for its muscles to function properly. A potassium deficiency can leave you feeling weak and nauseous. (Sound familiar?) Bananas are rich in potassium, so eating one will help replenish your body. Bananas will also calm an upset stomach, and their natural sugars can stabilize your blood sugar.

Take a ginger capsule. Feeling nauseous? No hangover is complete without the constant urge to throw up. Nausea is easily cured with ginger, one of the best-known and longest used vomit suppressors. You can make ginger tea by boiling fresh slices of ginger root, but if standing upright and boiling water is too much effort for you, drink a can of ginger ale or pop a ginger capsule. Ginger can also help relax your aching muscles.

Smell lavender. If extra-strength pain relievers aren’t taking the edge off your headache (or if you threw your pain relievers up), bury your nose in a sachet of lavender and breathe deeply. Any lavender-scented product works, too, from lotions to bath salts. Lavender is an easy way to relieve your headache naturally, and it doesn’t involve upsetting an already upset stomach.

Drink a lot of water. This is a no-brainer, but it needs to be said. Drinking several glasses of water before you go to bed will help relieve symptoms of dehydration in the morning.

Cook some asparagus. If you want to have fewer hangover symptoms, bypass the traditional carb-heavy pre-drinking dinner and grease-laden post-drinking lunch and aim for something a littler healthier–asparagus. Korean researchers found that asparagus boosts production of enzymes that break down alcohol, and volunteers who participated in the study reported fewer hangover symptoms. Eating asparagus both before and after drinking can help reduce symptoms.
