1. Use Essential and Carrier Oils
Essential oils have been used since ancient times for perfume use, cooking, skincare and so much more! Essential oils are a great natural alternative for clearing acne and can often help in lightening acne scarring as well. Some of the best essential oils for treating acne are tea tree oil, rosemary oil and lavender oil. Tea tree oil is a natural antiseptic and works to disinfect the skin, killing acne causing bacteria that often lives beneath the skin’s surface. Next up is rosemary oil. Rosemary oil is antibacterial and removes bacteria from the skin, which is one of the leading causes of acne. Lavender oil is another amazing oil when it comes to treating acne. Lavender oil also fights against bacteria and it reduces inflammation and calms the skin. Essential oils can be used by placing a few drops of the oil on a cotton ball and then applied directly to the skin. Essential oils can also be diluted with a carrier oil. Carrier oils moisturize and soothe the skin and are great for treating acne. Grapeseed, sweet almond oil and jojoba oil all pair great with the essential oils for treating acne.
2. Exfoliate Often
Dead, dry skin can build up on the skin’s surface causing excess oils to get trapped under the skin, which can lead to acne breakouts. By exfoliating your skin weekly, you remove built up dead skin and allow products to penetrate deeper into the skin’s surface making acne treatments more effective as well as lighten acne scars. You can create your own exfoliating scrub with sugar, a carrier oil like grapeseed or jojoba oil to soothe the skin, a vegetable derived glycerin for added moisture and a few drops of an antibacterial essential oil like tea tree or rosemary oil.
3. Consume More Water
Our bodies are made up of over 60% of water. Water is essential to our bodies functioning properly as well as our overall health. The skin alone contains about 64% of water. Many drinks such as coffee, alcohol, and sugary drinks can dry and irritate the skin as well as cause breakouts. Acne is often the result of a buildup of toxins in the body. By avoiding less healthy drinks and consuming more water, you naturally flush those toxins out. Drinking water not only hydrates your body but also your skin, allowing skin to appear more moisturized, clear and have an overall more radiant appearance.
4. Eat Your Fruits and Veggies
Another great natural way to clear your acne is by consuming more raw fruits and vegetables. Like water, many fruits and vegetables also have detoxifying properties that rid your system of harmful toxins that can cause acne and other skin disorders. By incorporating more fruits and vegetables into your diet, you inadvertently get more water, as many fruits and vegetables have high water content and you also ingest more enzymes and minerals that aid in healthy, glowing, acne-free skin.
5. Exercise Frequently
By exercising frequently you are able to detoxify one of our bodies largest systems of elimination, our skin. Sweating is one of the ways that our bodies eliminate toxins that can cause acne. Unbalanced hormones can also be a major factor in acne as well as many other skin ailments. Exercising regularly balances hormones as well as alleviates stress, another leading cause of acne.
