(This is the third in a series of articles on some common physical changes women may experience, such as varicose veins, wrinkles or age spots, as they age and how these changes can naturally be reduced or minimized)

Wrinkles and Aging

Wrinkles are a natural part of aging, no doubt about that.  They appear on the face, neck, arms, hands – well just about anywhere on the body.

What are Wrinkles?

Wrinkles are the lines and creases that form in the skin.  They occur on both women and men, and the face is the most common location for them.

Aging is an interesting process and understanding it can make it a little easier to accept.  There are two types of aging, intrinsic and extrinsic.  Intrinsic is one we have no control over.  Our genes basically control this form of aging.  Our skin becomes thinner and drier as we age.

Extrinsic aging is where outside elements can affect how our skin ages.  The environment and lifestyle choices play a huge part here.  By taking preventative actions, we can help in the reduction of wrinkles.

What Causes Wrinkles?

There are many factors that can cause or increase these folds in our skin.

  • Sun damage (the biggest factor)
  • Aging
  • Stress
  • Smoking
  • Habitual facial expressions
  • Poor hydration
  • Genetics
  • And various other factors

How to Minimize or Get Rid of Wrinkles

There are some basic things one can do to help minimize or get rid of wrinkles.  Some of these are best to start before the issue appears, as it is much easier to prevent something than to get rid of it once it already exists.

  1. Stay hydrated: drink 10-12 glasses of clean water every day
  2. Facial masks: can help hydrate, remove excess oils and pull out impurities in the skin.
  3. Drink aloe vera juice: it aids in collagen production, which provides structural support for the skin.
  4. Reduce sun exposure:  limit the time you spend in the sun and remember to wear protective clothing.  If using sunscreen, use an SPF of 30 or more.
  5. Don’t smoke: so if you do smoke, consider quitting.
  6. Eat a healthy diet: eat plenty of fruits and vegetables (especially yellow and green) and make sure to get good sources of dietary fat (which entails grass-fed meat, wild caught salmon, coconut oil and olive oil).
  7. Take these vitamins: Vitamins C, A, and E, along with biotin.  They will help reverse the effects from overexposure from the sun.
