Himalaya Herbal Healthcare Celebrates 80 Years

Himalaya Herbal Healthcare, a global leader in herbal medicines (sold in the U.S. as dietary supplements), and personal care products, has pledged to plant one tree for every person who visits any of their trade show booths in 2011, with a commitment to plant at least 8,000 trees in the U.S. this year alone.

“We began planting trees in drought-stricken areas of India,” said Himalaya CEO Nabeel Manal. “To date we have planted over 200,000 trees, and this year we wanted to begin a special U.S. tree planting program that allows the involvement of our retailers and booth visitors.” A program they plan on continuing in the years ahead.

Himalaya kicked off the tree planting initiative at Expo West in Anaheim last March, which resulted in the donation of 2,000 trees through the non-profit Arbor Day Foundation. Himalaya’s trees will be planted in US parks where forest restoration is needed for the animal habitat to survive and in communities where the need is greatest. To accomplish this, the company will partner with environmental groups until reaching this year’s goal–seen as a great way to help commemorate Himalaya’s 80 years in business.

The tree planting project comes hand-in-hand with Himalaya’s recent announcement that the company broke ground on a new North American headquarters in the Houston suburb of Sugar Land; a LEED® Gold Certified, eco-friendly business office, warehouse and training center that will serve as the center of the company’s US operation in the decades ahead.

Founded in India in 1930 by Manal’s grandfather, Himalaya Herbal Healthcare products are now sold in over 70 countries worldwide, including the US, Canada, and Latin America.

“We can’t think of a better way to celebrate 80 years in business than to plant 8,000 more trees in honor of our retail partners.” said Manal.

Visitors to Himalaya Herbal Healthcare’s trade show booths this year will receive a biodegradable bookmark containing embedded wildflower seeds that can be planted in the ground after use. Look for Himalaya at Expo East in Baltimore this year at Booth #5929, and they’ll plant a tree on your behalf.
