While cosmetics are popular today it never crossed my mind that the herbs used in cosmetic production could provide health benefits and treat skin problems.

Neem, basil and lavender are three cosmetic-staples; these herbs are popular ingredients in shampoos, perfumes, makeup and lotions. They each provide a health benefit to maintain healthy skin. Essential oils from harvested plants are used to make cosmetic products.

Neem: Neem has anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal properties that allow it be used in lotions, soaps and shampoos. It can relieve dry, itchy skin and help treat problems with eczema and psoriasis. The herb is used in an oil form to help treat abrasions on the skin.

Basil: This aromatic herb is rich in vitamin A and a popular ingredient in shampoos, lotions, soaps and perfumes. Use it to help treat acne problems.

Lavender: It is often used to make perfumes, soaps, shampoos and lotions. When added to chamomile it treats eczema because the ingredients mixed together can reduce inflammation.
