Wax sachets are the best of both worlds: They smell as wonderful as candles, but you’ll never forget to blow them out! You can make these lovely bars in a single afternoon, then set them wherever you like: on your desk or in the bathroom, or in a window where the sun can warm the wax and release its fragrance. You can even hang them in your closet to delicately scent your clothes.

2 cups (180 g) soy wax flakes
• 1 teaspoon rose absolute oil prediluted in jojoba oil
• 1 teaspoon sweet orange essential oil
• 1/2 cup (10 g) dried rose petals or buds
• 6 to 10 dried orange slices
• Silicone mold
Long metal nail (or thick needle)
Twine, string, or ribbon

1. Fill a spouted heat-safe glass measuring cup or a clean aluminum soup can with 1-1/2 cups (135 g) soy wax flakes.
2. Place the container in the center of a small saucepan. Add water to the saucepan until it reaches halfway up the container’s sides.
3. Bring the water to a boil over medium heat and keep a watchful eye on the wax until it’s completely melted. As it melts, continue adding the remaining flakes until the container is almost full of liquid wax.
4. Carefully remove the container from the water. Let it cool for 1 minute, then add the rose absolute oil and sweet orange essential oil. Stir to combine.
5. Arrange half the dried rose petals and citrus slices in the bottom of your silicone mold. Then carefully pour about three-fourths of the wax into the molds to a depth of about 1/4 inch (6 mm).
6. When the sachets have started to set but are still warm and pliable, press the remaining dried rose petals and citrus pieces into the sachets’ surfaces.
7. Use a paintbrush to gently apply a thin layer of liquid wax over the botanicals, sealing them in.
8. When the wax has cooled completely, gingerly remove the sachets from the molds.
9. Take a long metal nail (or thick needle) and cautiously heat it for a few seconds over an open flame. Take care not to burn yourself.
10. Use the hot nail to melt a small hole through the tops of your wax bars. (I found it best to start at the back and go through to the front.)
11. Thread a piece of twine through the hole and knot it. Hang your wax sachets wherever you want to add scent and a decorative touch.
