You are what you eat, and consuming fresh, raw juices is one way to flood your body with nutrients and cure your ills. Plenish: Juices to Boost, Cleanse and Heal (Mitchell Beazley, 2015) by Karen M.L. Rosen is a collection of juice recipes and cleanse programs for detox, well-being and vitality. This recipe for a cancer-fighting juice comes from the chapter “Hardcore Deep Greens.&rdquo
I desperately wanted to incorporate red onions into a juice, as I’m in love with their health benefits but don’t love eating them raw. Onions are anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and contain the phytochemical quercetin, which has been reported to help fight cancer. During recipe testing, we “high-fived” when we sampled this recipe, it’s that good. Think gazpacho comes to the juice bar. I like this juice in the evening on a cleanse, as it’s rather savory and a nice respite from sweeter juices I prefer during the day. You can keep the chile seeds in if you want some more heat. I do!
