Jim rotates crops for fresh veggies throughout the year. After harvesting spring greens, he plants summer squash and cucumbers.

Author of 14 books and former host of PBS’s “Victory Garden,” Jim Wilson and his partner, Janie Lynn Mandel, have created a manageable, chemical-free, organic garden by dividing 1,000 square feet into handy mini-gardens. Jim and Janie grow seasonal produce year-round, and yield enough fresh herbs and vegetables to donate to the Central Missouri Food Bank.

Three things we love about this garden:
1. Jim and Janie’s 150-acre property features a pond with a manmade island, covered in lavish landscaping and equipped with an outdoor dining room.
2. Jim relies on a variety of natural gardening methods such as crop rotation, composting and mulching.
3. At 83, lifelong gardener Jim is still doing what he loves.
