Skip the potentially hazardous chemicals in store-bought microwave popcorn bags by making your own on the stove.

Microwave popcorn bags are coated with potentially hazardous chemicals. This stovetop popcorn eliminates the worry.

How to Make Homemade Popcorn

1 1/2 tablespoons oil (any cooking oil will work)
1/4 cup popcorn kernels, chilled in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes
Kosher salt, to taste
Optional seasonings (fresh herbs and powdered garlic; honey melted with a little bit of butter; or cocoa powder and cinnamon)

1. In a heavy-bottom skillet with a tight-fitting lid, heat oil over medium-high heat.

2. Add a few kernels. As soon as one pops, add the rest, cover and shake to coat with oil.

3. Continue shaking the pan around on the burner until the popping mostly subsides. Turn off the heat and shake a few more times. Wait a few seconds before removing the lid. Sprinkle with salt and seasonings.
