Though I experienced a flu-related delay after returning home from our First Ever Mother Earth News Fair, I did want to report, happily, that I finally was able to meet the legendary Lemon Verbena Lady at the fair.
The fair was held at the Seven Springs Resort, in the mountains about 60 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. That was close enough for Nancy Heraud, who blogs as The Lemon Verbena Lady, to grab her good friend Bonnie Shanko in tow and come over to meet us. I tried to videotape an interview with her, but she was my first subject of the day and, sadly, I did the whole interview with the camera’s batteries completely dead. Technology is so great when it works.

However, we did get this great photo of Nancy, in some very questionable company, and I hear she was able to spend some time also getting acquainted with our good friend Jim Long, who was one of the event’s co-sponsors and one of our keynote speakers. She gave me a jar of her famous Lemon Verbena Jelly and I have already asked her to be one of our featured speakers for The Herb Companion stage at next year’s fair.
Yes, news flash—we will be returning to Pennsylvania next year for the second annual Mother Earth News Fair at Seven Springs Resort. And we’re planning a couple more fairs, one in northern California and one in Washington (the state, not the district) next year as well. So stay tuned and we’ll hope to see you when we come to your area.
