Natural Lotion: Lavera Body Lotion

.

The Natural Home & Garden offices have been overflowing with lotion recently! In preparation for a product roundup in our September/October 2011 issue, we called in lotions from more than half a dozen companies. With almost two dozen scents to sample, it’s been quite a fun experience.

Of all the lotions I’ve tried, I keep coming back to Lavera Body Lotion. Lavera's lotion absorbs well and doesn’t leave behind a greasy residue. Instead, it leaves hands soft and smooth!

Lavera Body Lotion

Lavera Body Lotion contains such moisturizing ingredients as shea butter and sweet almond oil, and comes in six scents: laveder aloe, orange sea buckthorn, lime, wild rose, vanilla coconut, and (my personal favorite) milk and honey. Designed for sensitive skin, Lavera's products are free from parabens, SLS, synthetic preservatives, fragrances, emulsifiers and petroleum based ingredients.

Although the Environmental Working Group hasn’t reviewed the Body Lotion, Lavera fully discloses all of the ingredients in its products, making it easy to spot anything that might raise concern. Most of the ingredients in Lavera’s Body Lotion scored well, but two ingredients raised a flag: vitamin E acetate and lecithin. The EWG's Skin Deep database rated vitamin E acetate at a 4, placing this ingredient in the fair or middle level, for issues of bioaccumulation and skin toxicity; lecithin was rated between 3 and 5, depending on usage, for possible immune and respiratory irritation and enhanced skin absorption.

Lavera's products are reviewed and rated by European institutions, including the strict BDIH in Germany. Lavera Body Lotion bears stamps of approval from NaTrue the UK-based Vegan Society.
