Moisturizing Face Masks for Dry Facial Skin: Kahina Antioxidant Mask

| 11/12/2010 10:00:32 AM

As you combat dry facial skin this winter, consider using a moisturizing face mask once a week to treat your skin to an extra dose of high-power hydration.

If you’re already using facial oils to help balance your skin and keep your complexion smooth and clear, you’ll appreciate the extra dose of the highly popular Moroccan argan oil that Kahina’s Antioxidant Mask delivers to your parched skin. Made with 59 percent organic ingredients, Kahina Antioxidant Mask combines rich argan oil, sourced directly from a women’s cooperative in Morocco, with organic aloe vera leaf juice, organic sunflower seed oil, organic geranium leaf oil and organic peppermint leaf oil for an incredibly moisturizing yet purifying mask.

Kahina Antioxidant Mask also features silica-rich rhassoul clay, native to the Atlas Mountains in Morocco, to help draw out impurities and gently exfoliate skin. The one-two punch of moisturizing oils plus detoxifying clay means your dry facial skin gets proper exfoliation (bye bye flakies!) and hydration.

Kahina recommends using its antioxidant mask two to three times a week, but at $62 for a 15 mL jar, I’d recommend sticking to a once-a-week luxurious mask to help spread the life of this little miracle in a jar.  If that pricepoint makes you cringe a bit, feel good knowing that Kahina donates 25 percent of the profits back to the women’s cooperative in Morocco. You’re also supporting a company that believes in environmental conservation and smart packaging: All Kahina products’ boxes and brochures are printed on post-consumer waste paper, and the bottles are made from high quality recyclable violet glass, which acts as a natural preservative by blocking out damaging light rays.

To extend the number of uses you get out of your jar of Kahina Antioxidant Mask, alternate using it with a DIY exfoliating, moisturizing facial mask, or add this homemade facial mask to your mid-week moisturizing schedule: Slather two tablespoons of rich, thick olive oil mixed with a teaspoon (or more) of kosher salt on your face before bedtime. Using your fingers, massage it over your face, concentrating on the rough patches. Dip a wash cloth in warm water, wring it out so that it’s just damp and dab the salt and excess oil off your face. For extra moisture, follow up with another thin layer of olive oil before you hit the sack. If you have an oil you’re loyal to, feel free to switch out olive oil for it; though I’m loyal to jojoba oil, I like the extra amount of hydration olive oil offers my skin throughout the night. It’s too thick to layer on during the day, so it’s my choice oil for a before-bedtime moisturizing face mask.
