Body & Soul: Sea Kelp Body Mask

| February/March 2008

  • Bring out your natural glow with kelp.

Makes 12 ounces
This rich sea kelp body mask removes toxins and renews the skin. Kelp, aloe vera gel and pure clay combine to give your whole body a healthy, radiant glow.

Mineral-rich kelp powder also can be used alone as a body scrub to remove surface impurities. Powdered kelp can be found in most natural food stores and Asian markets.

  • ½ cup powdered clay
  • ¼ cup powdered kelp
  • ½ cup aloe vera gel
  • ¼ cup seawater (or mix sea salt with distilled water)
  1. Mix together all ingredients to form a smooth paste or mud. Spread mud over your face and body. (Use a medium paintbrush to spread mud evenly.) Allow mud to dry 15 to 20 minutes.
  2. Shower with tepid water to remove mud, then gently pat skin dry. Follow with a rich moisturizer, such as cocoa butter or coconut oil, as this treatment can dry out your skin.

Note: If you don’t want to cover your whole body with the mud, just cover your upper torso.
