Cut down your carbon footprint by using eco-friendly flatware.
Americans throw out enough plastic silverware to circle the equator 300 times. It was this alarming statistic that prompted the launch of To-Go Ware, a manufacturer of reusable and eco-friendly food containers and utensils in an effort to eliminate plastic consumption. The company is now introducing its newest line of utensil holders.
The utensil holders are made entirely from plastic bags found polluting New Delhi, India. After partnering with two non-profit organizations, Conserve and WEAVE (Women’s Education for Advancement and Empowerment), the company was able to employ hundreds of ragpickers and women in New Delhi to collect, sort and clean thousands of plastic bags polluting the city to manufacture the utensil holders. A fabric-like material is created from compressing and heating polyethylene bags. The holders, crafted with individual pockets to house the company’s recycled bamboo fork, knife, spoon and chopsticks, are fit for traveling and every day use.
Offered in five different color sets, this product has a suggested retail price of $20. To-Go Ware products can be found at Whole Foods nationwide as well as on their website, www.to-goware.com.
