Sometimes you just need to write in a journal. The new ecosystem line of journals, planners and sketchbooks, available at Barnes & Noble , lets you feel good about what you’re writing on. The books are made in the U.S. of 100 percent post-consumer recycled paper and are easily recyclable.
To recycle the books first separate the components of the book. Remove the cover from the interior pages and take off the elastic band and the ribbon bookmark. To recycle the interior pages find a recycler near you . Then send the cover, elastic band and ribbon bookmark to ecosystem Recycling . The cover requires a special recycling process to separate the base paper from a latex coating; ecosystem uses the elastic band and ribbon in a textile recycling program. Recycle the shrink wrap that the books come in at a standard plastic recycling location.
Each book comes with a unique identification number (located on the back pocket) that lets you view information about each component of your book. Enter the number on the ecosystem website to find out where each component of the book was manufactured, what eco-friendly processes were used to create that component and the number of people employed to make each component.
The books come in three sizes and four styles: blank pages, lined pages, graphing paper or calendar/planner. Get the books in hard cover or flexi cover in five bright colors: onyx, watermelon, lagoon, clementine and kiwi. Prices for the books range from $7 to $19.
