Numi Organic Tea is good in three ways: The company offers many flavors to choose from, it has a large selection of herbal infusions or tisane; and the founders have a nice story behind them.
Numi has all kinds of green, black and white teas, as well as Lemon Chamomile and Moroccan Mint among its Teasan . The Mint Puerh tea is an organic green tea blend. It has a distinct green tea taste, while the touch of mint is subtle. Other flavors are Decaf Black Vanilla, with real vanilla beans, and Emperor’s Puerh, simply Puerh tea.
Numi offers loose leaf teas, as well as tea bags. The latter could be improved: Even though the label boasts that the bags are made with biodegradable materials, a metal staple closes and attaches the bag to a cotton string. More companies are packing their tea bags in silk or paper sachets without the need for a staple, which is less wasteful, as they don’t have to use the cotton strings or the paper labels.
For something different, try Numi’s flowering teas. These are tea leaves sewn with cotton into balls that “blossom” when steeped in hot water. Watch the video of this process online to see for yourself. Of course, you need a clear tea pot to see it, which is available through Numi. As a package, it is a great gift idea, and a great tea party conversation starter.
Numi teas are a bit pricey, but you do get certifications to reassure you that the product is not just natural, it is also sustainable. A box of 16 tea bags is $9.99 . A box of the Teasan herbal tea is $6.99 . A box of the flowering teas with 18 pieces, starts at $35 .
