For the first time, some 100 families across the United States and Canada have agreed to open their homes, built according to the principles of Maharishi Sthapatya Veda architecture, for public tours on Sunday, May 6, and Sunday, June 3, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Known as Veda houses, the homes are built according to ancient Indian spiritual laws to promote serenity and harmony with the laws of nature. Veda houses are designed in accordance with the solar, lunar, and planetary influences with reference to north and south poles and the equator.

The goal of the free tour is to give people an experience of Ideal Vastu and to educate them about the effects and origins of Maharishi Sthapatya Veda design, especially in terms of the home’s orientation, room placements, and proportions. While the homes are built in a variety of styles, some have solar features and most were built using all-natural and nontoxic materials. All have Brahmasthans (central atrium or courtyard spaces), Vastu fences, special roof ornaments known as Kalashes, meditation rooms, and natural lighting and air circulation.
