Elderberry is a respiratory immune tonic. Anise is a respiratory antispasmodic. Echinacea prevents recurrence of coughs, and catnip is relaxing. Mix equal parts of the following, all available at health-food stores:
Elderberry Cough Syrup Recipe
• Elderberry syrup
• Anise seed tincture
• Echinacea glycerite
• Catnip tincture
Give 1⁄2 teaspoon to kids and 1 teaspoon to adults 4 to 6 times a day. Continue for up to a week. If there’s a tendency for recurrent coughs, stay on it for several weeks.
