The 2 Degree Pledge program educates consumers on simple ways to make their cooling methods more energy-efficient and cost-effective.
Green will be on homeowners’ minds as the weather gets colder. With heating costs expected to increase 20 percent this winter, they will want both a way to save green and be green. The Air-Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) is heading a campaign to inform the public on easy ways to lower energy bills. The initiative, called The 2 Degrees Pledge, suggests ways to be more energy efficient, such as installing a programmable thermostat, keeping up with maintenance, installing efficient heating and air conditioning equipment, and adjusting thermostats.
Heating costs account for 50 percent of energy bills during winter, according to the EPA. The initiative suggests changing filters, sealing ducts and windows, insulating walls and having a heating professional look at your home to make it as energy efficient as possible.
