Fruit (Storey Publishing, 2013) by Sherri Brooks Vinton is full of ways to store and use extra fruit. In the following excerpt, use homemade limoncello when mixing up our Lemon Pepper Martini recipe.

Lemon Pepper Martini Recipe

I am more of a classic cocktail kind of a gal. But back in the day, I knocked back my share of “girly” martinis. One might think of this as a tipple with training wheels, but seeing as it’s made with homebrewed hooch, I think it’s earned its big girl status.

• 2 tablespoons sugar
• 3 ounces limoncello
• 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
• Freshly ground black pepper
• Ice
• 1 lemon wedge
• 2 lemon slices (optional)

1. Pour the sugar onto a plate at least as wide as your martini glasses.

2. Combine the limoncello, lemon juice, and a few grinds of pepper in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously for about 1 minute.
