For Your Health: Mix Milk and Turmeric

There are many reasons you should add turmeric to your medicine cabinet. It’s a powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant, it lowers cholesterol, and it fights atherosclerosis. Did you know that you can easily absorb turmeric’s health benefits by mixing it with one of my favorite drinks, milk? I have milk almost everyday with my cereal, pasta dishes, and Lean Cuisines. Native to South Asia, turmeric gives off a bright yellow color often seen in curry dishes. My goal for today was to find a way to bring the health benefits of turmeric into your everyday milk consumption.

A combination of turmeric and milk is an all-natural cure for a variety of ailments. Milk mixed with turmeric can be beneficial for protecting your bones. Adding turmeric to milk could decrease bone loss and could be important if you’re suffering from osteoporosis or osteoarthritis.

This mixture is also used to help fight damaged skin cells. Turmeric has high antioxidant content and this combined with milk can fight free radicals that cause skin problems. Free radicals go throughout your body damaging skin cells.

Milk and Turmeric Drink

This is a drink mixture you can create at home. Mix a a 1/2-inch piece of turmeric and 8 ounces milk together in a small saucepan. Heat the mixture over medium heat for 5 to 7 minutes until it is almost boiling and the turmeric has turned a yellow color. Let the mixture cool and transfer to a glass, disregarding the piece of turmeric.
