February is an expensive month for me. I have Valentine’s Day, my boyfriend’s birthday and our anniversary all packed into the shortest month of the year. Last year drained my bank account, so this year I’m looking for ways to save money but still make Valentine’s Day special for the both of us.
If you’re like me, you probably want to save some money on Valentine’s Day gifts this year, too. The easiest way to do this—short of not exchanging gifts—is by making homemade gifts. Not only will this save you money, but it adds a personal touch that a store-bought gift doesn’t have.
I lack creativity in coming up with my own homemade gift ideas, but I’m great at following instructions! Thankfully, Natural Home has lots of articles detailing how to make a variety of items that you could easily give to your special someone.
Photo Lamp Shade
This gift is both practical and personal. By day it looks just like a plain lamp shade, but turn the bulb on at night and the light will softly illuminate photos of you and your sweetheart.

Steel Candle Covers
Candles are the perfect way to set the mood and create a little romance. These instructions will help you to create a modern yet whimsical candle holder out of metal plates.
Instead of using a traditional clear glass vase to hold Valentine’s Day flowers, use craft paper to make your own personalized vase. It only takes 60 seconds!

Food can also be a gift. If you’re not a crafty person—and if the way to your loved one’s heart is through their stomach—consider giving your Valentine a delicious dessert. You could even make the dessert together for a romantic afternoon or evening.

Dark Chocolate-Dipped Truffles with Coconut
Don’t spend a lot of money on fancy chocolates when you can make them yourself. This recipe will make a tasty, elegant gift.
