The downfall of many so-called “natural” products is fragrance. I’ve scanned the back of many natural-labeled products and have been impressed with the ingredients (or lack thereof) until I’ve reached the last one: fragrance. Not so with Herbal Choice Mari Hand and Body Lotions. Unlike other companies that use harmful synthetic chemicals to scent their products, Herbal Choice Mari uses only organic, plant-based oils to create the alluring fragrances of its Hand and Body Lotions. (Fragrance is a vague term, but it’s usually a good sign that the product contains phthalates, endocrine-disrupting chemicals that have been linked to breast cancer, infertility and sperm damage.)

Herbal Choice Mari’s Hand and Body Lotions come in five appealing scents: lavender, sweet orange, lemongrass, peppermint and ginger, rose and ylang ylang, and—for those with extra-sensitive sniffers—unscented. Sweet orange is my personal favorite; it’s uplifting and energizing, and unlike other orange-scented products on the market, it’s not overpowering.
What I love best about Herbal Choice Mari’s Hand and Body Lotions are the ingredients list, which are filled with organic, wild-harvested, easy-to-recognize ingredients like jojoba and olive oils, shea butter, and herbs such as thyme, lavender and sage. Herbal Choice Mari’s short and sweet ingredients lists earn its Hand and Body Lotions a “0” on the Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep database—the lowest and best score a product can receive.
Although listed as Hand and Body Lotion, the products feel more like hand oil than hand lotion. I prefer to put on the lotions on only at night, before bed, or at times when I know I won’t need to touch many objects. Once the oil has properly absorbed, however, my hands feel softer and smoother than with most typical lotions.
Herbal Choice Mari’s Hand and Body Lotions cost $16.95 for a 3.36-ounce pump bottle and can be purchased online.
