Green Carpet Cleaning

Keeping it clean the natural way.

| January/February 2005

Once you have a “green” carpet, why pollute it with high-pH caustics, butyls, glycol ethers, petrochemical solvents, or citrus terpene—all found in many carpet cleaning solutions? Choose spot removers from reliable, well-reputed natural product vendors and manufacturers. If you need whole-house cleaning and want to hire a professional, choose a reliable steam-cleaning company or one that advertises biodegradable, nontoxic products.

• For stains, apply club soda, soak spot, and blot.

• For greasy or oily spots, try baking soda or cornstarch. Let sit overnight, then blot and vacuum.

• For urine or food, use dish soap and mild scrubbing. Blot with a clean, damp towel to remove all soap.

• For fresh-smelling carpet, sprinkle baking soda, let sit, and vacuum.
