A new website, EarthMoment.com, allows shoppers to track their carbon emissions produced by purchasing products from the website.
Carbon neutral shopping through websites such as EarthMoment.com allows the shopper to buy the exact same products (for the same price) from some of the same stores they already shop at—and a portion of the purchase is donated to carbonfund.org.
EarthMoment.com has partnered with roughly 1,000 retailers, such as Target, Barnes & Noble, Wal-Mart and Apple, to give back a portion of each sale, so long as the consumer accesses their store site through EarthMoment. Going to any shopping site from this page—just one extra click—tells the retailer to set aside a portion of the sale to offset carbon through tree planting, light bulb donations or investments to renewable energies.
Shoppers can even decide how they want that money to be used should they choose to. A distinct feature of EarthMoment.com is the annual emissions tracker that allows shoppers to measure their emissions and displays the carbon offset produced by purchasing products from the website. Shoppers simply create a profile before shopping and the EarthMoment tracks and coordinates all donations made from purchases.
