Stylish furniture typically doesn’t involve discarded trash—but the designs of Studio Jo Meesters do. Studio Jo Meesters introduces “Odds and Ends, Bits and Pieces,” a fun collection of furniture pieces made from recycled materials that contain just as much panache as they do trash.

Thirty-four discarded wood beams and 16 blankets were repurposed into the bones and woven upholstery for four pieces—a bookcase, bench, stool and table—that Studio Jo Meesters debuted at Dutch Design Week 2008 as part of an experimental project called TESTLAB.

The Odds and Ends, Bits and Pieces collection is a fresh take on the sustainable and creative possibilities of modern furniture design. Bright colors, simple lines and a mishmash aesthetic that’s more sophisticated than trashy breathe new life into castoff “odds and ends.” TESTLAB may have been experimental, but it’s design with a purpose; the pieces that sprung from the project will easily capture the hearts of those who appreciate thoughtful, green design — and just plain good design.
