Our friends at Mountain Rose Herbs have been named the 2008 Green Business of the Year in Coop America’s People’s Choice competition. We offer them our heartiest congratulations.
Mountain Rose, an Oregon company that produces bulk herbs, teas and essential oils, is one of those companies that, the more you hear about, the better you like. Their products are all organic – and have been for many years, so they were leading the sustainability band a long time ago, not just jumping on the bandwagon now that green is the new black. Beyond that, though, they are a Zero Waste company – which means that they are on the cutting edge of where we all ought to be – doing business without doing harm to the environment. It isn’t possible – yet – to be 100 percent environmentally harmless or to produce absolutely no waste, but they are serious about the goal and have taken many successful steps in its pursuit.
They are also one of the few U.S. natural products companies to use Fair Trade Certified™ herbs, ensuring that workers along their supply chain are treated decently and are paid a living wage for their work. I think this kind of good ju-ju can’t help but make its way into the energy of the products, and we also salute them for their contribution to a just and equitable world.
For more information, you can read the press release and explore their website at www.MountainRoseHerbs.com. While you’re there, sign up for their newsletter – we often contribute articles for it and would love to see its reach expanded. (Sign up for ours, too.)
