Robyn Griggs Lawrence thumbnailI love to integrate salvaged items into my home; they bring character and soul that new materials just can’t muster. Salvage doesn’t make sense when it comes to windows, however. As much as I love the warmth of old wood, I want to save energy with the newest, most efficient windows possible. Now I can have it all.

Jeld-Wen is the first major manufacturer to offer reclaimed wood window and door products as part of its Custom Wood line. Made from Douglas fir that was originally used for fencing, barns, houses and factories, the windows and doors have the unique, rustic look I love. 'Because this material has been painstakingly brought back to life in a way that enhances the natural, original characteristics of the wood, it delivers a very authentic look and feel,” says Brian Hedlund, Jeld-Wen product marketing manager. “Every reclaimed window and door we make is truly one-of-a-kind, each with its own unique style and an interesting story to tell as well.'

Jeld-Wen Custom Reclaimed Wood windows are available with exterior cladding in a variety of colors to deliver the ultimate protection against the elements, while the interiors reflect the reclaimed material’s unique characteristics. The “weathered” wood option is made using reclaimed wood that is as close to the condition of the original salvaged wood as possible. The “skip planed” wood option has been smoothed out slightly in certain areas, while allowing some of the original character to shine through, and the “planed” wood option has a smoother, more refined finish.

Jeld-Wen has been an Energy Star Partner since 1998. For more information or to find a dealer, visit jeld-wen.com.
