Groupon for Greenies: A Site to Save You Money

Robyn Griggs Lawrence thumbnailGroupon, the shopping site that sends coupons for huge discounts with popular businesses to thousands of subscribers via a daily email, has caught millions of budget-minded consumers’ fancies (and an unsolicited $6 billion buyout offer from Google). I’ve never been a big coupon user, largely because most of them offer discounts for products I’d never use. (Frozen TV dinners? Virgin-pulp paper towels? I don’t think so.) That’s why I’m thrilled to learn about a GreenDeals, a new “Groupon for greenies” service from Green America, a network of environmentally and socially responsible businesses. GreenDeals serves up daily deals, just like Groupon, but (as the name implies) focuses on offers from green companies.

More than 100,000 people have already signed up for GreenDeals, created in partnership with Q4 Marketing.

“GreenDeals helps Americans who are tightening their belts live a green life and save money at the same time,' Green America executive director Alisa Gravitz says. 'From household necessities to great gift ideas, GreenDeals provides terrific products from businesses that have been screened by Green America for their social and environmental responsibility.'

Those are coupons I could use.
