Robyn Griggs Lawrence thumbnailDebra and Gary make living in a tiny house look easy—and desirable—in this tour of their 320-square-foot home built for less than $20,000 (which came to us via Unclutterer). Appalled at how large houses had become in the United States while they were living for nine years in Central America, Debra and Gary finally decided to let go of their struggle to make payments on a 2,000-square-foot home and downsize—really downsize. “We thought of living in a shed,” Debra says.

Their tiny home, modeled after Mississippi's 'shotgun' homes, has everything the family needs, including an ingenious full-size guest bed and a bedroom loft where their son has had six boys over for a sleepover. The house can sleep six to eight people comfortably and 10 uncomfortably, Debra says.

Rather than focusing on what the family doesn’t have—which happens too often when we talk about tiny houses—Debra is solidly focused on all that her tiny house brings. “I’ve got everything I need right here,” she says. “And we live in a house that’s paid off.” What’s more, she adds, living in tight quarters actually improves family relations. “There’s something about the close physical contact that forces you to interact and even be more pleasant.”

This house is adorable. Enjoy!
