Teenagers can go green, too. The Poudre School District of Fort Collins, Colorado, has partnered with the Rocky Mountain Sustainable Living Association to create Future Friday , a green field day for local junior high and high school students.

Future Friday is September 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the 10th Annual Sustainable Living Fair venue. It will feature a variety of workshops and activities designed to connect local youth to regional and national sustainability experts. Discussions and workshops will cover a range of topics such as:

• Eco-lifestyles for teens

Green careers

• Youth community building and volunteering opportunities

• Entrepreneurship, sustainable business practices and fair trade

• Renewable energy and energy savings at home

• Environmental action and leadership

• Community gardens

Future Friday will also include activities such as yoga and tai chi, as well as entertainment provided by a skate ramp, disc jockey, and showings of environmental and indie short films and music videos. PeaceJam, an organization that inspires leadership and positive action among young people by teaching them about Nobel Peace Laureates, will also participate. Natural Home managing editor Jessica Kellner will present the award for the ongoing poster contest.

The organizers of Future Friday hope the event opens up the Sustainable Living Fair to the youth of Fort Collins and provides a unique educational opportunity on the importance of green living.
