With an increasing number of people growing their own food, and shopping at farmers’markets, there is a growing demand for information on extending the life of your fruits. Put ‘em Up! Fruit (Storey Publishing, 2013) by Sherri Brooks Vinton is full of ways to store and use extra fruit. The following excerpt uses a homemade blueberry syrup recipe (also featured) to make this Blueberry Lemonade recipe.

You can purchase this book from the Mother Earth Living store: Put ‘em Up! Fruit.

Blueberry Lemonade Recipe

I always serve a “mocktail” when I entertain—a special booze-free beverage. It gives kids a chance to enjoy a libation that’s a treat and gives the grown-ups an alternative to the bar if they would like one. This lemonade, refreshing to both young and old, is a welcome addition at any gathering.

• 1/2 cup Blueberry Syrup
• Juice of 4 lemons (about 1/2 cup)
• 1/4 cup sugar
• 4 cups water or seltzer
• Ice

1. Combine the syrup, lemon juice, and sugar in a large pitcher and stir until the sugar dissolves.

2. Add the water or seltzer and stir to combine. Serve over ice. Makes 5 cups.
