Herbs and spices are more than just flavor enhancers. Certain seasonings can help with weight loss goals. For example, coriander (or cilantro seed) can help remove fluid from the system.

In my book The Fat Flush Plan, I recommend using herbs and spices heavily in the diet. The recommended herbs and spices are much more than simply flavor enhancers on the Fat Flush program. Certain seasonings are utilized because they are helpful in boosting metabolism (such as cayenne, ginger, and mustard); keeping blood sugar levels stable (cinnamon, cloves, and bay leaf); removing fluid from the system (parsley, cilantro, and coriander); nourishing the liver (garlic and turmeric); and aiding digestion (anise, fennel, cumin, mint, and dill). Additionally, basil and oregano are helpful for combating germs and viruses. Herbs and spices such as rosemary act as potent antioxidants while others, such as savory, tarragon, thyme, sage, and marjoram, are rich in minerals and also assist digestive function.
Following are several healthy, herb-rich weight-loss snack recipes from my new book, The Fat Flush Cookbook (McGraw Hill, 2002). These "fat flush" recipes are low in calories and fat but high in nutrition and flavor. Enjoy!
