RawFoodz, Inc., launched in October of 2010 with a small line of organic, raw, vegan salad dressings, is now in 40 health food stores and growing. The products are also Kosher certified, nut free and gluten free.

RawFoodz, Inc. launched a little more than a year ago from the seed of an idea. Michelle Cass, and her sister-in-law, Sher Kopman, both try to get their kids to make healthy food choices, and have shared their healthy recipes with each other over the years. They came up with the idea to create a raw, organic vegan salad dressing product line when people just couldn’t get enough of Michelle’s healthy salad dressing concoctions.

“Our idea was to take comfort foods that people enjoy, but may be avoiding due to issues with the ingredients, and make them with high power super foods containing antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and essential fatty acids” Michelle said. “What’s amazing is that people expect not to like it. These are raw, vegan, organic and natural dressings with ingredients like chia seeds and goji berries. People think that means the products won’t have a good flavor. But they are always pleasantly surprised.”

The two women spend an extraordinary amount of time on research and development to ensure that the flavors they formulate exactly match or even improve upon the flavor of their less healthy counterparts.

“We’ve had our share of trial and error,” Michelle said. “For example, we chose to switch out the sweetener we used, which meant we had to start all over. To make our dressings as healthy as possible, we chose coconut sugar, which modified the color of the product. So we had to reformulate the dressings completely for color and consistency.”

RawFoodz first launched with four vegan salad dressings: French Fusion, Glorious Greek, a poppy seed dressing called Purely Poppy and a Caesar dressing known as Sea-zar Serenity. The next product roll-out included Japanese and Italian dressings, which were a huge hit with loyal customers, who enjoy using them for everything from green salads to pasta salad dressing to pasta hot dishes.

All products are formulated with healthy, raw, organic, vegan ingredients. They are also Kosher certified, nut free, gluten free and have no preservatives. “People with allergies and food restrictions are always looking for great alternatives,” Michelle said. “We want to help them get the flavorful foods they enjoy.” To learn about new product announcements, you can follow the RawFoodz Facebook fan page.

Michelle’s long-term vision is to continue expanding the product line and bring the products to the U.S. market. The RawFoodz products are available from a wide variety of stores listed on the company store page, including major stores like Sobeys and Loblaws, as well as gourmet and health food stores. The products are also available individually online at Upaya Naturals, or by the case from the Rawfoodz.
