MasterShield Gutter Protection: Sustainable Gutter Guards

Reader Contribution by Press Release

As summer fades into fall and winter, eco-conscious contractors and homeowners alike are looking to New Jersey-based MasterShield® Gutter Protection (www.mastershield.com), the long-time leader in the gutter guard industry, to best protect their gutters from the seasons’ falling debris and often inclement freezing weather.

MasterShield Gutter Protection recently announced their new MicroVortex technology. The patented filter, deemed the “Impossible Cloth,” will now be able to filter more water, more quickly, as a result of a specific calculation of thread size, density, weave and placement in the micromesh filtration cloth.

But in addition to providing a gutter guaranteed never to clog, MasterShield is also committed to supporting the environment through eco-conscious initiatives. Thanks to these efforts, homeowners and contractors who use MasterShield can rest easy knowing that their gutter guards will keep the environment clean as well, thanks to the company’s many ecologically responsible building initiatives.

The Product

MasterShield is committed to supporting environmentally friendly practices.  Proudly manufactured in the U.S., our products’ aluminum contains more than 95 percent recycled content and the stainless steel is made up of at least 30 percent recycled material (a higher percentage would not meet surgical grade standards). Any metal trimmed from the product during installation is also 100 percent recyclable. Additionally, our adhesive meets requirements that would allow it to be in contact with edible products.

Committed to Building Green

We are members of the U.S. Green Build Council (USGBC) and, along with several of our dealers, American Rainwater Catchment Systems Association (ARCSA).  MasterShield can also be utilized in building projects aimed at achieving Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, as improved water efficiency is one aspect that the organization measures.  The LEED Water Efficiency credit category “encourages smarter use of water, inside and out.”

The Supply from the Sky

Rainwater has been harvested for centuries and is widely used where people need to supplement or rely on rain for their water supply.  It is also the best water you can give your plants and grass. The fresh, naturally soft water has not been treated with chemicals like fluoride or chlorine.

You would be surprised by the amount of rainwater you can collect every time it rains. Each rainfall is an opportunity to reduce dependency on your municipal water supply, particularly in the hot summer months when water restrictions are often put into effect.   Imagine being able to water your lawn or fill your pool for free and “off the grid.”  You can maintain your lifestyle while doing your bit for the environment by reusing one of its resources.

Water is collected on your roof and channeled to your gutters where you can collect it — pre-filtered to 50 microns — when you have enclosed your gutters with MasterShield.  It can be captured in above or underground cisterns or in rain barrels.

Our filtration standards surpass municipal drinking water tolerances (rainwater is not potable unless properly treated). It is easy to get started “going Green” with your rain water and, apart from the cost of a collection barrel, it is also free. By routing the flow of water from the rain gutter downspout to the landscaping or into a barrel, MasterShield customers can help reuse a precious, natural resource.
