GloryBee Foods Introduces Fair Trade Certified Honey in Retail Jars

Reader Contribution by Press Release

GloryBee Foods is pleased to introduce retail jars of Organic Fair Trade Certified™ honey, which will be available on grocery store shelves later this fall. The honey is produced by beekeeping cooperatives in Brazil’s arid Caatinga region. Since the cooperatives have been established, beekeeping families in the region are able to earn a fair price for their honey and improve not only their own standard of living, but that of their communities as well with the support of the Fair Trade premium funds that are specifically for community investment. The honey will be available in two different pack sizes: An easy-to-use 12-ounce squeeze bear and an 18 ounce sustainable glass jar. The honey packed in the glass jars is raw, (never heated above 115 degrees) which preserves the beneficial enzymes naturally found in honey.

18 oz jars and 12 oz squeeze bears will be available for purchase from GloryBee Foods mid-November. The bears and jars will be carried by natural foods retailers and distributors in the Western United States.

To help educate consumers about Fair Trade honey, GloryBee Foods has produced a documentary video entitled “Hope is Golden: The Fair Trade Honey Story.” This 10-minute documentary highlights the journey made by Dick and Alan Turanski to Brazil, where they visited two cooperatives producing Fair Trade honey. The documentary also includes interviews with cooperative members and organizers, who share how selling their honey through the cooperative has improved the standard of living for themselves and their communities. The video can also be viewed on the GloryBee Foods web site at www.glorybeefoods.com/gbf/Company_Sustainability.cfm
