S.CollinsIt turns out that your morning cup of jo' may not be as bad for you after all. According to a newly published study from the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, coffee may lower the risk of stroke in women.

The study discovered that women who drank at least one cup of coffee a day lowered their risk of stroke by 22 to 25 percent. Also, interestingly enough, the researchers found that those who drank little to no coffee each day actually slightly increased their risk of stroke.

With that said, it still is not clear as to why coffee helped lower the risk of stroke in women. The researchers believe that the chemicals in coffee may help reduce inflammation or increase insulin resistance in the body—all of which may help reduce the risk of stroke.

However, it did not matter if a woman drank one cup to coffee a day, or 10 cups, either way the risk decreased. It is assumed that the women drank caffeinated coffee because the study did not mention if the participants drank caffeinated or decaffeinated coffee.

So drink up coffee-lovers and enjoy knowing that you are also may be benefiting your health.
