Pomegranates have been a symbol of beauty and goodness since ancient times. The juice is a powerful antioxidant that does great things for the skin. It’s especially useful for those with combination skin, as it isn’t too drying and also promotes the regeneration of skin cells. I often use bottled pomegranate juice because it is available year-round, but you can also make your own fresh juice. An easy way to extract the seeds from a pomegranate is to submerge the whole fruit in a bowl of cold water as you peel it. The seeds will float to the top. Place a cup of pomegranate seeds into a strainer over a bowl and gently press onto them with a large spoon to release the juice. MAKES 4 1/2 OUNCES

• 1/4 cup pomegranate juice
• 3 tablespoons witch hazel
• 2 tablespoons distilled water

1. Pour all ingredients into a clean bottle with a tight-fitting lid and shake to combine. To extend the shelf life, you may store this toner in the refrigerator, where it will keep for 2 to 3 weeks.

2. To use: Apply the pomegranate toner to your face using a clean cotton ball.
