There’s not much to look forward to in January. It’s cold, it’s bleak and everything that was once beautiful and green is now dead or dormant. It’s easy to feel a little disheartened–but fear not! Spring is around the corner, and while it may still be a little too early to think about digging our hands into the earth and nurturing a beautiful garden, we can always dream, can’t we? And that, dear readers, is why we love Pinterest. While your garden slumbers in peace, feast your eyes upon these images of lively, lush, green gardens of all types, found on Pinterest, and remember–the season for gardening is almost here!

Is there anything so wonderful as working in your own vegetable garden?

It comes as no surprise to us that Martha Stewart’s vegetable gardens are both expansive and well-organized.

This rooftop garden from Better Homes & Gardens proves that living in the city doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the pleasures of a relaxing garden. (For more stunning, urban rooftop gardens, keep your eyes open for the March/April issue of Natural Home & Garden.)

A stone wall brings a touch of whimsy and elegance to this garden.

Gardens can even grow on roofs, such as this green roof on a garden shed in Raleigh, North Carolina. (Check out Living Roofs, Inc. for more about green roofs.)

Sweet autumn clematis bursts from the rafters of Evan Williams’ fire-ravaged barn, while hosta and ferns grow in raised beds in the barn’s interior.

Large trees shade the path that winds through this side yard garden.

The line between edible and ornamental is blurred in this garden, designed using basic principles and a touch of whimsy.
