Use these mixtures with the charcoal briquettes described below.

Christmas

• 1 ounce pine needles
• 1/2 ounce hemlock needles
• 1/2 ounce sassafras powder
• 1/2 ounce cedarleaf (Thuja occidentalis)
• 1/4 ounce whole cloves

Frankincense and Lavender 

• 1/4 ounce frankincense
• 1/4 ounce ground cinnamon
• 1 ounce lavender
• 1 ounce rosemary
• 1/2 ounce sandalwood

Lavender and Rose 

• 1/4 ounce benzoin
• 1 ounce lavender
• 1/2 ounce cinnamon
• 1 ounce rose petals
• 1/4 ounce patchouli
• 1/4 ounce sandalwood

Charcoal Briquettes 

• 6 cups charcoal (preferably willow)
• 1/4 cup tragacanth
• 1/2 cup sandalwood powder
• 5 cups water
• 1/8 cup potassium nitrate

Grind charcoal and mix well with trag­acanth and sandalwood powder.

In a separate container, combine water and potassium nitrate and mix thoroughly with dry ingredients. Pat into mini-muffin molds or candy molds, or place in a rectangular pan and score into bricks. Leave in a dry, airy place for two days.

To use, place a briquette in a fireproof bowl or burner, light one corner, and sprinkle loose incense over the slow-burning coal.
