Natural Healing – Bitter is Better Befriending the Bitter Herbs – Elder Flower-Rose Toner

Spring is the perfect time for revitalizing your body-care routines. Try these fresh, easy-to-make herbal recipes to smooth your skin, condition your hair, and rejuvenate your entire body.

Elder flower (Sambucus canadensis, S. nigra), rose petals, and chamomile are soothing and healing for the skin.

· 1 cup distilled witch hazel
· 2 teaspoons dried elder flowers
· 2 teaspoons dried rose petals
· 2 teaspoons dried chamomile
· 1 teaspoon vegetable glycerin (optional)

In a pint glass jar, combine the witch hazel with the dried herbs. Cover the jar with a lid and allow the mixture to steep for 2 weeks in a warm, dark place. Gently shake the jar every day to keep the herbs from settling. Strain the mixture and add vegetable glycerin if your skin is dry. Store in a clean bottle. Apply with a cotton cosmetic pad after washing your face, or use as a quick skin freshener after exercising.
