Ireland Bans Incandescent Light Bulbs

Ireland became the first nation today to introduce a plan to ban incandescent light bulbs, hoping to eliminate them from store shelves by the start of 2009.

Ireland announced today that it is planning to pass legislation banning incandescent light bulbs from store shelves, hopefully as soon as a few months from now. In order to prove its commitment to the environment, and to save more than 70,000 tons of carbon emissions each year, Ireland has become the first nation to propose legislation banning the outdated bulbs. Several other European Union nations, among them France, Holland and England, also hope to ban the bulbs within the next couple of years. Read more...
