Snow king: Vermont Ski Recyclers (VSR), in Morrisville, was founded by Toby Hirchak in 1996 when a friend who worked at Nordica asked him to make a snowboard bench.
Ski shop: The VSR crew makes fun and funky Adirondack chairs and loveseats, benches, coat racks, clocks, book cases, CD racks, lamps, and picnic tables —all from recycled skis and snowboards. Used, defective, and returned skis pour in from manufacturers, ski shops, and resellers. From time to time, the local trash hauler even drops off pairs at the workshop.
Downhill design: These sleek conversation pieces are perfect for yards, parks, or even a ski chalet, plus they’re water- and cold-proof to boot. Choose furniture created from radically painted skis and boards, or go with more subtle colors and patterns.
