Because you really needed another reason to grow and prepare your own food …

On April 29, the Six L’s company of Immokalee, Florida recalled grape tomatoes that had been possibly contaminated with salmonella (“Cherry Berry” brand, lot DW-H). No illnesses have been reported.

The tomatoes were initially sold in 10 states and Canada, but have since spread in distribution and been used in many salad products produced by Walmart, Safeway, Albertsons, Raley’s, Saveart and Sam’s Club. These salad products are also now under recall by Taylor Farms Pacific Inc.

According to a WebMD article today, “The salad products include seafood salads, Mediterranean salads, green salads, quinoa salads, orzo salads, salads with chicken, chef salads, Cobb salads, Greek salads, and mozzarella salads.”

The original distribution of these possibly contaminated grape tomatoes include Florida, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Michigan and California. Other states that are also affected by the recall of salad products include Oregon, Washington, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, South Dakota, Colorado, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico and Arizona.

Products to be wary of are Walmart’s Marketside and Asian Chicken Salad products, Sam’s Club’s Greek Orzo Pasta and Chicken BLT Spinach Salad, Savemart’s Pacific Coast Cobb Salad, and Safeway’s Signature Café salads. A full listing can be viewed here

If you have recently purchased one of the affected products, do not eat it. You can return it to the store for a full refund. If you believe you may be experiencing symptoms of salmonella poisoning, please contact a health professional.
